With a day and 9 hours to go, bidding on this thing has so far gone up to $18,300 with the reserve not met for this Top Hand Edition Plymouth Trailduster. This was the only one ever ordered with the Top Hand package, so you’re not gonna see another one anytime soon. The Top Hand package apparently got you a whole bunch of fancy stuff, including stripes, body-colored wheels, and that bullbar. It definitely stands out to say the least.
It’s also powered by a 440 v8! A smog-choked 440 v8, but a 440 v8 nonetheless!
Would this thing be the Holy Grail of Plymouth trucks? If not this, then what? In any case, it looks wild in that gloriously unashamedly 70's way, and I love it.

How can just one person order a package? Like don’t most dealers have to order a certain amount of each trim or whatever? Surely someone would have noticed and said, “H ey you , no one noticed we made this. How about we tell someone?”
Then again, no one told anyone Hyundai made an Elantra Coupe.

I believe it was a made-to-order thing, and it was available across a variety of different Chrysler vehicles. Several people ordered the Dodge equivalent of this, but this is the only Plymouth Trailduster ever ordered this way.

It was easy in 1977. A la carte options were the norm, packages and trim levels were only beginning to appear. You want power brakes but not power steering? No problem. Dealers ordered what they thought they could sell, X number of strippers, Y number of mid-option rides and Z fully loaded, and if that didn’t blow your skirt up you could special order.

Same way less than a handful walked into Audi’s German HQ and completed the process to order an R8. e-tron one year. Doubt I’m the only person on this side of the world who knew about not only the car, but the requirements for ordering one.

Now that I’d believe bidding on will be fierce in the finale.

That is quite possibly the most 1970s vehicle of all time.

Just a ‘tache? This thing deserves at least mullet-level 70's hair.

The want is real but how do you even take this thing out to enjoy it, the plymouth traildusters are rare enought as is, but a 1 of 1 off roader, that would be nice to have but impossible to use
